Two British tourists found dead in Albufeira pool

Initial findings suggest there is no suspicion of foul play

Two British tourists, aged 27 and 29, were found dead at the bottom of a swimming pool at the Duas Palmeiras aparthotel in Albufeira early this Tuesday morning.

According to tabloid newspaper Correio da Manhã, both appeared to be intoxicated and did not know how to swim. This has been vehemently refuted by a close friend of both men who has written into this newspaper to “state with complete certainty that neither of them drank alcohol. One of them strictly abstained due to his religious beliefs, and the other made a personal choice to do the same. I have never seen either of them consume alcohol not at house parties, social gatherings, or nightclubs.

“The suggestion that alcohol may have been involved is completely unsubstantiated, and it is causing real pain and distress to their grieving families and close friends”.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 4am and attempted resuscitation, but both men were unable to save.

GNR military police are handling the case and have called PJ criminal police as a precaution. According to CM, initial findings suggest there is no suspicion of foul play

Family and friends understandably are in shock, and they stress that the very least they can do at this time is ensure that both men are remembered accurately, and with dignity.
