Two new air links announced for Faro Airport

Three new air links have been announced for Faro Airport – one of which will connect Faro to Cardiff, and the other two to Madrid and Barcelona.

The Faro-Cardiff link will be launched in June by British low-cost airline Flybe.

It will run three weekly flights on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Tickets are already for sale, with prices ranging from £40-£60 (www.flybe.com)

Flybe has said that it has also launched another 10 routes from Cardiff – to Belfast, Cork, Dublin, Düsseldorf, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Jersey, Munich, Milan (Malpensa), and Paris.

Meantime, Spanish airline Air Nostrum will be resuming the Faro-Madrid air link, dropped in 2006, while Vueling will be flying to Barcelona.

Flights will begin on June 1 to Madrid and on June 12 to Barcelona, and only run during peak season. The last Faro-Madrid and Faro-Barcelona flights will be on September 30 and 12, respectively.

Air Nostrum will be offering three flights a week on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays in June, part of July and September, while between July 22 and September 1 the flights will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Tickets for the link, serviced by a 90-seat Bombadier CRJ, are being sold for a range of prices starting at €55 (www.airnostrum.es).

Vueling, on the other hand, will be flying twice a week on Tuesday and Saturday.

Tickets are also available starting from €50 (www.vueling.com)

Regional tourism boss Desidério Silva says the opening of these two routes to Spain “is great news” that the Algarve had been waiting for for the last 10 years.
