A LOCAL food festival is being organised to raise funds to help complete a new retirement and day care centre.
Organisers at Pêra parish are holding the Arraial do Petisco over two weekends at the end of July and early August.
The architectural project for the centre, which is in Pêra, is ready and the building permits are available and waiting at the Silves Câmara.
Previous festivals have raised a total of 200,000 euros and the organisers are now considering other options to raise more much-needed cash.
The estimated investment needed, including equipment, is five million euros and of the monies raised to date, 75,000 euros has been spent on architects’ fees.
The festival programme, in Portuguese only, can be found on the official website. It includes dancing and concerts with local entertainers and bands, like Banda Lusa, Bombocas, Banda Iris, Ana Leão, Joana e as Bailarinas plus a special night of Fado (August 8).
