TAVIRA HAS been named as the area with the most water wastage in the Algarve.
A total of 52.4 per cent of water distributed ends up being wasted, according to a study by Pro Teste magazine.
Tavira is also the second most wasteful in the country, marginally better than Alandroal, in the Alentejo, which wastes 54 per cent of distributed water.
Two of the least wasteful municipalities in Portugal are Monchique (15 per cent) and Portimão (15.25 per cent).
