THOUSANDS OF people dressed in white descended on Loulé city centre on Saturday night for the first ever Noite Branca (white night), a street party with live music and entertainment.
Clowns making balloon animals to order and face painting stands were just what the children needed to be entertained and shops were open until midnight, with discounts on all items to people dressed in white.
Well received
There was live music up and down the street and DJs played at two squares at either end. As the crowds arrived,

they were greeted with soft jazzy piano music, and saxophonists, violinists and guitarists could be seen on every corner.
Fire breathers, jugglers, mimes and groups doing the Brazilian dance martial art, Capoeira, were well received by a vocal and enthusiastic crowd.
With the road closed off to traffic, large lounge areas were placed in the middle of the street, and decorated with carpets,

sofas and bean bags to allow people to rest their feet and watch the world go by.
It was not only local residents who attended the street party, but many tourists from the UK, Germany, France and Spain, among others, flocked to the packed city centre.
Loulé Câmara said since the party surpassed all expectations it will almost certainly be repeated next year.
