World airline awards

EASYJET SCOOPED a top award at the World Airline Awards 2008 while Lufthansa and British Airways were also voted as top airlines by passengers in an annual airline survey.

Last year, easyJet came sixth in the category of best low-cost airline worldwide, however their strong performance this year saw the company beat off competition from second placed Virgin Blue and last year’s winners Jetstar Airways, an Asian airline.

Edward Plaisted, CEO of survey coordinators, Skytrax said: “As we have stated in earlier years, low-cost does not need to, nor should it equate to low-quality service and easyJet is clear testament to this.”

The award for best trans-Atlantic airline went to British Airways while German airline Lufthansa took the award for best European airline.

The World Airline Awards are based on the annual World Airline Survey undertaken by Skytrax.  The survey was carried out between August 2007 and July 2008 and is recognised by the airline industry as the only global, independent passenger survey without any third party interest.

The passenger survey measures more than 35 different aspects of passenger satisfaction to evaluate a typical travel experience.  More than 15 million passengers were interviewed with over 95 different nationalities taking part in the survey making the results truly global.

Passengers were asked to evaluate various aspects of their airline experience including friendliness of ground staff, toilet cleanliness, staff grooming and quality of meals.
