16 arrested over four days in Albufeira

A crackdown on illegal activity led to the arrest of 15 men and one young woman

Sixteen people were arrested in the Algarve tourist hotspot of Albufeira between June 13 and 16 for a variety of criminal offences, including attempted homicide, drug trafficking, and home invasion, GNR police confirmed on Monday.

The arrests involved 15 men aged between 16 and 47, and a 19-year-old woman, as part of a series of law enforcement operations conducted across the municipality. The actions aimed to prevent and deter illegal activities, particularly during a period of increased public presence in the area.

According to the GNR, the busts included one arrest for attempted homicide, nine for drug trafficking, three for home invasion, one for serious disobedience, one for drunk driving and another under a judicial warrant.

Police also seized a stash of drugs, including 157 doses of cocaine and 52 doses of hashish, along with two vehicles and a knife.

Officers issued 19 fines during the operations. Notably, one involved the illegal possession of 18 nitrous oxide canisters (“laughing gas”), and 10 related to ride-share vehicle violations.

All case files and evidence have been submitted to the Albufeira District Court.
