Pot-banging protests in solidarity with Palestine
New demonstrations by the Algarve pela Palestina (Algarve for Palestine) Movement are taking place tomorrow, Thursday, July 31, in Faro (by the Arco da Vila), at 7.40pm; and on Friday, August 1, in Portimão (by the Town Hall), at 7.30pm.
Says the movement: “In light of the starvation endured by the population of Gaza and the ongoing genocide perpetrated by Israel – where thousands of lives, mostly children, have been lost – and faced with the helplessness that overwhelms us before such inhumanity, barbary, and impunity, our civic platform rises once again in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
“In the last 18 months, this oppression has reached unbearable levels of brutality, including a criminal blockade of humanitarian aid, resulting in forced starvation, the impossibility of escape or refuge for civilians, ethnic cleansing, torture and extrajudicial executions, and the bombing of hospitals and vital infrastructure.”
“In view of this scenario, we call on all citizens to participate in these demonstrations, so that together we can demand:
• An end to the blockade on humanitarian aid in Gaza;
• an end to the genocide in Gaza;
• an end to the occupation and apartheid;
• an end to the complicity of the European Union;
• an end to the normalisation of relations with Israel;
• an end to the impunity of the Israeli authorities.”
