All 16 of the Algarve’s boroughs joined the regional tourism board (RTA) at Lisbon’s BTL tourism fair last week to promote not just the region’s fantastic beaches and sunshine but also its delicious food and wine, stunning nature, wide range of sports venues and variety of cultural events.
Showcasing a side of the Algarve that most holidaymakers might not know was one of the goals of the initiative, with one of the highlights being the Algarve Nature Week event which will take place in Lagos between April 13 and 22.
Tourism chief Desidério Silva says it will have a new format this year, with a number of activities to enjoy.
“Cycling and Walking” is another niche that the region is actively promoting, having recently become the test subject for a national online portal entitled ‘Portuguese Trails’ which details the best paths and routes for hikers and cyclists.
Said Silva, the region is working on a new management system for the Eco Via and Via Algarviana trails as well as a new tourism guide for youngsters aged six to 10.
He also revealed that the region’s promotional website (www.visitalgarve.pt) has also been revamped to offer more “practical and useful information” to visitors.
