Artist and illustrator Christopher Corr exhibits in Portugal for first time

Artist’s work can be seen at Galeria Côrte-Real, Paderne

A graduate from London’s Royal Academy of Art, this is the first occasion Christopher Corr is exhibiting his work in Portugal. It can be seen at Galeria Côrte-Real in Paderne.

A highly-celebrated artist with a distinctive style, one of his earliest publications followed a long stay in India. Subsequently, his wanderlust has taken him on journeys with Qantas airline to a variety of destinations creating paintings, posters and prints.

His routine is to set out early in the morning with a few pencils, two sketch books and a scrap book for collecting bits and pieces such as tickets, paper napkins, drip mats and anything unusual and suitable that catches his eye. Later in the day, when creating a painting, he will use these items and his sketch pads for reference details.

Examples of his travelogues have been selected by London’s Berkeley Square Gallery and include exhibitions entitled ‘In Flight’, ‘En-Route’, ‘New Delhi to New York’, and ‘Thinking about Japan’.

Closer to home, he has been commissioned by London Transport, the National Aids Trust, Body Shop, Habitat, UNICEF, various children’s publishing houses and the Royal Mail. He has mounted a dozen one-man shows and has a following of devoted fans and collectors.

Always aiming to view assignments from a different angle when commissioned to promote the natural qualities of wool, he created a frieze made in the style of the Bayeux Tapestry. Sheep from around the world were the star attractions posing in a wide range of natural surroundings. Replicating the scenery so successfully, his paintings highlighted the adaptability of the species and the different qualities of their wool. Their sweet faces and compelling personalities added appeal!

Over the years, many prizes, awards and scholarships from worthy organisations have validated the pleasure that his pictures bring.

The current collection of his recent paintings displayed at Côrte-Real must be seen to be fully enjoyed.
