The badly decomposed body of a man was found in Ria Formosa marshlands near Olhão’s ETAR water treatment plant.
According to national tabloid Correio da Manhã, police believe the remains are of a 43-year-old man who lived in Olhão as a wallet with identification was found.
An investigation is now underway to determine how the man died.
The body was found by a shellfisherman on Sunday at around 11.30am.
Olhão port captain Nunes Ferreira confirmed that the body was found face down in the water. The victim was wearing jeans and a sweater.
