Brit killed in late-night dispute in Lagos

Victim was allegedly bothering other clients inside nightlife spot in Lagos, PJ police say

A 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of killing a 61-year-old Englishman in a violent confrontation outside a bar in Lagos in the early hours of Saturday morning (May 31).

The dramatic events unfolded on Rua 25 de Abril just outside a popular nightlife spot in the heart of Lagos, where tensions flared following an alleged disturbance involving the victim. According to authorities, the older man had been bothering other clients inside the venue before the incident spilled out onto the street.

Police say the suspect was taken into custody later that day, with investigators pointing to “strong indications” that he is responsible for the fatal assault.

The case is now in the hands of Portimão’s PJ police division, which is treating the death as a suspected case of aggravated homicide.

The accused was due to appear before a judge, who will decide what legal measures to impose while the investigation continues.
