British couple seriously injured in Lagos zebra crossing crash

The elderly British couple had to be airlifted from Lagos to Faro Hospital

Two British people, a couple aged 78, were seriously injured after being struck by a motorcycle while crossing a street in the Algarve town of Lagos this Monday morning (June 16), a police source told Lusa news agency.

The incident happened around 10.20am on Avenida da República. According to Faro’s PSP police command, the couple, residents of Lagos, were hit while on a pedestrian crossing. The crash caused them serious injuries, prompting the dispatch of an emergency medical helicopter to airlift both victims to Faro Hospital.

The motorcyclist, who reportedly hit the couple, was also injured, though less seriously, and was taken by ambulance to Portimão Hospital.

Authorities say the cause of the crash is still being investigated. The incident led to the deployment of 20 personnel from the fire department, PSP, and INEM (National Medical Emergency Institute). The operation included six vehicles and one air unit.
