A 24-year-old footballer who plays for Algarve club Farense is in hospital “in serious condition” after being stabbed in the neck in the early hours of this morning (March 19) in Vilamoura.
Octávio Barros, better known in the football world as ‘Tavinho’, was attacked while out celebrating a 2-1 win against Olhanense that guaranteed a playoff spot for his club.
Describe witnesses, “blood was splattered across the pavement in front of the bar”, while the knife believed to have been used in the attack was found stuck in a patch of grass behind the bar by reporters from TVI24, who reported the finding to GNR police.
The stabbing happened at around 5.15am. The suspected attacker ran away but has already been identified, a PJ police source has told the press.
The player was rushed to Faro Hospital in serious condition.
Tavinho is one of Farense’s most influential players, having played in 25 games and scored eight times this season.
He was born in Almancil and has played in the Algarve his entire career. This is his second season with Farense.
