Faro Airport to stage full-scale emergency drill

Exercise to test response systems may cause temporary traffic disruptions near the beach road

The Algarve’s Gago Coutinho International Airport in Faro will carry out an emergency training exercise on Sunday, October 13, between 10am and 3pm.

During the drill, traffic on the Praia de Faro road will be restricted, with possible temporary closures and diversions, all of which will be clearly signposted, according to a joint statement by Portugal’s airport authority (ANA) and airport operator Vinci.

The exercise is part of the airport’s annual emergency preparedness program and will involve both internal airport teams and “external response agencies”. Its goal is to test the effectiveness of emergency procedures, improve coordination among different services, and ensure the safety of all passengers, staff, and visitors, the statement explains.

Travellers and residents are advised to plan their journeys in advance and follow the instructions of local authorities on site.

The airport management thanks the community and visitors for their understanding and cooperation during the exercise.
