Fire outside Portimão Hospital quickly put out

Smoke sparked alarm but flames were swiftly extinguished

Plumes of thick black smoke rising from Portimão Hospital sparked alarm among patients, staff and passers-by on Sunday, especially with the blaze erupting near the intensive care unit.

But thanks to the quick action of firefighters, the blaze – which began in a courtyard where wooden pallets were stored – was extinguished within five minutes.

No smoke entered the hospital, sources told Correio da Manhã tabloid, and reinforcements were called off.
