The 26th edition of Portimão’s popular photography contest is back on May 16, introducing a new drawing category for the first time.
Organised as part of the 18th anniversary celebrations of Portimão’s museum, the Corrida Fotográfica de Portimão (Portimão Photography Race) will once again invite participants to capture fresh perspectives of the municipality.
Alongside the usual photography challenge, this year’s edition includes the first Desenhar Portimão (Drawing Portimão) meeting, opening up the event to even more artists. In other words, participants will now be able to submit both photos and drawings, with a jury evaluating entries in both categories.
The competition, considered one of the most well-known of its kind in Portugal, has been closely linked to the museum since its early editions, even before the venue opened in its current form in 2008.
On May 16, participants in the photography category will have from 8.30am to 8.30pm to capture 12 original images based on themes set by organisers. All photos must be taken within the municipality, covering areas such as Portimão, Alvor and Mexilhoeira Grande.
The new drawing event will run on the same day, between 9am and 6pm. The museum will serve as the meeting point, where participants will receive information about the two locations selected for drawing or painting.
Prizes will be awarded to the four best entries in each category, ranging from €750 to €1,000. Additional awards include a Youth Prize for participants aged 12 to 17 and a Special Jury Prize. Winning works will be exhibited at the museum throughout December.
Registration for both photography and drawing categories is open until May 13.
Participants can sign up in person at the museum or online, where full rules and details are available. More information can be requested by telephone or email (+351 282 405 230/269 | corrida.fotografica@cm-portimao.pt).
