Forum Algarve unveils striking swallow sculptures

Sculptures were created by local artist Miguel Martins

Visitors to Forum Algarve in Faro have a new impressive piece of art to behold now that the shopping centre has officially unveiled ‘Andorinhas’ (Swallows), a large-scale sculpture installation created by Algarve-based artist Miguel Martins.

The artwork, installed in the pedestrian access area near the food court, features two massive sculptures of swallows in mid-flight. Measuring 5×7 metres and 6×8 metres, the pieces were handmade using reclaimed wood and repurposed metal, in line with the artist’s sustainable approach.

The sculpture was crafted at Estúdio Onze, a local art collective co-founded by Martins. Known for blending urban art, sculpture, and traditional craftsmanship, the studio incorporates sustainability and regional identity in all its projects.

Built using assemblage techniques, the artwork reuses materials like old doors, shutters, and tiles.

“The promotion of art and culture has been a clear focus for Forum Algarve and we’re particularly happy to do so by giving a stage to our community’s talent,” says the shopping centre’s director, Sérgio Santos.

He added that Forum Algarve is proud to welcome the new art piece, saying it aligns with its focus on sustainability.
