British couple wanted in Cyprus arrested in Faro

Pair to be extradited to Cyprus

A British couple wanted by authorities in Cyprus has been arrested by PSP police in the Algarve capital of Faro and will now be extradited to face a series of serious charges.

The man, 63, and woman, 54, were detained by police on Saturday following European arrest warrants issued by Cypriot authorities.

They are suspected of offences including money laundering, organised crime, aggravated fraud and document forgery, according to a statement posted on Évora’s Regional Public Prosecutor’s Office website.

After their arrest, the pair appeared before Évora’s Court of Appeal on Monday. Judges approved the extradition, in line with the request from prosecutors, and ordered that both remain in custody until they are transferred to Cyprus.

The case relates to an ongoing investigation by Cypriot authorities, although no further details about the alleged crimes have been made public.
