Granfondo by Škoda brings 1,500 cyclists to Portimão

Cyclists from 29 countries set to take part in second edition

Cyclists from all corners of the world are expected in Portimão for the second edition of the Granfondo Portimão by Škoda on November 1 and 2.

Around 1,500 cyclists hailing from 29 countries are due to take part, including Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Cuba, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Macau, Mozambique, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, and Zimbabwe, highlighting the event’s truly global appeal.

The main race sets off on Sunday, November 2, at 9am from Portimão’s riverside area, with three distances to choose from – Granfondo (130 km), Mediofondo (104 km) and Minifondo (69 km) – taking riders through a mix of coastal and inland landscapes.

But the weekend isn’t just for elite cyclists. On the morning of November 2, a 5 km charity walk will take place, limited to 100 participants, with proceeds going to a local social support institution. The day before, on Saturday, November 1, children aged 3 to 12 will take over the paddock area for the “Granfondinho”, a free fun event designed to introduce younger riders to the joy of cycling.

Organised by Cabreira Solutions with support from the Portimão municipal council and several partners, the Granfondo Portimão by Škoda has quickly become a highlight of Portugal’s sports calendar, promoting the Algarve as a top destination for active and sustainable tourism, organisers point out.
