A woman died this morning (November 6) after being stabbed multiple times in Porto’s Praça da Corujeira.
Emergency services were alerted at around 8.18am after witnesses reported a violent attack in front of the Corujeira school. Firefighters from the Porto Volunteer Brigade found the victim – aged around 40 and pregnant, according to Porto Canal – with knife wounds to the chest and back and rushed her to São João Hospital, where she died from her injuries.
According to PSP police sources, the suspect, a 39-year-old man, fled the scene. He was later found in serious condition near Porto’s Oriental Park, after allegedly throwing himself from a bridge on the A43, CNN Portugal reports. The man was then taken to Santo António Hospital under police guard.
Investigators believe the man and the victim had a personal relationship, though the exact nature of it remains unclear.
PJ criminal police have taken over the investigation to determine the circumstances behind the killing.
