Lagoa begins another major water supply upgrade

Pipeline replacement will deliver more stable water supply to Carvoeiro, Sesmarias and Ferragudo, municipal council says

Lagoa has kicked off another major fix to its ageing water supply system, this time replacing the decades-old pipeline that connects Palmeirinha Velha to Cerca da Lapa – a stretch long plagued by leaks and breakdowns.

The work covers the area between Rua Francisco Sá Carneiro, Rua Alfredo Keil and Rua Dona Maria Eugénia Júdice Dias Ferreiras, and marks the latest step in the municipality’s push to modernise its entire water network. The old pipeline has become increasingly unreliable, and officials say the new system will deliver a far more stable water supply to the communities of Carvoeiro, Sesmarias and Ferragudo, which “directly rely on this line,” the municipal council of Lagoa says in a statement.

The project is part of a wider multi-year investment plan aimed at renewing outdated infrastructure, cutting water losses and guaranteeing a safer, more efficient service that is adapted to the needs of the population. According to the municipality, it’s another move in a long-term strategy to keep pace with the region’s growth and improve everyday quality of life.

The works, which have already begun are expected to take two months to complete, with the option of a two-month extension if needed, and represent an investment of €296,999.53.

“With this latest intervention, Lagoa is reaffirming its commitment to building a water network that is efficient, resilient and ready for the future,” the local council says.
