Multiple roads in Lagoa are due to be completely repaved as part of a €1 million investment announced by the municipal council.
The first round of repaving is focusing on the town of Lagoa, with improvements to Rua Francisco L. M. Veloso, Rua do Centro de Saúde, Rua Dr. João António da Silva Vieira, Rua do Viveiro, Rua do Infantário, and Rua dos Amigos de Lagoa, where the main water supply pipe linking to the Lagoa water tower will also be replaced. Other streets such as Largo do Município, Rua Jacinto Correia, Rua Afonso Costa, Rua Joaquim Eugénio Júdice, Rua Hintze Ribeiro, and Travessa Hintze Ribeiro are also being resurfaced.
The contract also covers work outside the town, including the Lagoa–Salicos road, Rua 25 de Abril and Estrada das Hortas in Estômbar, as well as Rua S. Gonçalo de Lagos, Rua Vale da Azenhaga, and Travessa da Hortinha in Ferragudo.
Alongside this project, the municipality has signed another contract to repave additional municipal streets and rural paths. This includes two roads in Sobral (where new water pipelines will also be installed), part of the M530-1 municipal road, and several streets in Porches, such as Rua Dr. Francisco Sá Carneiro, Rua 25 de Abril, Quinta das Areias, Rua do Levante, Aldeamento do Levante, Aldeamento Zulmar, Vila Mourisca, and Rua de Vilamar. An access road in Sesmarias is also included.
The original tender also included improvements in the Carvoeiro Beach area, but no construction company submitted a proposal. However, the municipality has announced that it will relaunch the tender with a higher budget, in an attempt to ensure that streets needing work will also be resurfaced soon.
In a statement to the press, the council says the repaving project is badly needed as it covers roads and streets that have not seen any improvements in many years.
