Lisbon Airport is hosting a photography exhibition featuring stunning snaps of some of Portugal’s most breathtaking views, from its riverfronts and coastlines to the countryside.
Starting tomorrow (September 30) and running until November 15, the cultural installation is presented by the Arte Institute – a non-profit organisation that promotes Portuguese culture and artists worldwide through exhibitions, projects, and cultural initiatives – and features photographs by German-born photographer Nico Trinkhaus. It marks Trinkhaus’ first-ever solo show – and a rare move by the institute to spotlight a non-Portuguese artist.

“Nico Trinkhaus is celebrated for his award-winning, vivid images of European cities and landscapes. He settled in Portugal after moving to Lisbon in 2019 and later to Estoril in 2024. His new home inspired the project CORação – Colours of the Heart,” the institute says in a statement.
The exhibition was “curated to form a cohesive body of work that celebrates the beauty of Portugal” and is displayed at the airport’s arrivals hall.
“Colour is woven into the very heart of life here in Portugal, and it is this that I wanted to convey in this collection of images,” Nico Trinkhaus says. “Personally, this is very significant for me as it is my first solo exhibition after having been part of group exhibitions across Europe. The Lisbon Airport is truly a dream venue. I always thought an airport would be a great place to exhibit and enjoy art, as they are places where we often have time to pause. For this to happen here in Lisbon, and for the Arte Institute to invite me as a non-Portuguese artist, makes me feel truly honoured. I love this country very much and I’m happy to give back with a display of photographs depicting its beauty.”
Ana Miranda, Director of The Arte Institute, added: “Nico Trinkhaus’ captures not only landscapes and cities, but also the essence of belonging to this country. That is why we felt his photographs would make a meaningful exhibition at the Arte Box in Lisbon Airport — a place of departures and arrivals, where every traveller’s gaze can meet the soul of Portugal through his work.”
