DECO, the Portuguese Consumer Protection Association, claims that all diesel categories are the same and there is no difference between premium and low-cost brands, after testing four brands and getting similar fuel consumption on four separate vehicles.
DECO will now denounce the situation to the proper authorities and submit a petition to the Ministry of Economy.
DECO tested four market-leader brands: Galp Gforce and Galp Hi-Energy (premium), Jumbo and Intermarché (low-cost), and after 12,000 kilometres travelled using four separate vehicles (each one with a different fuel brand) concluded that “it’s all the same”.
Bearing the price differences between brands, DECO believes there is a ‘disloyal’ commercial practice and the brands’ marketing is misleading.
DECO emphasises the “urgency” of creating sector regulations to “protect consumers and establish effective fines”.
