A special support centre designed to help children with learning disorders is planned for the now defunct primary school in Barão de São Miguel, in the borough of Vila do Bispo.
An agreement was signed last month between the non-profit association APPDA Algarve, the municipal authority and the Vila do Bispo school group.
The idea is to monitor children who need special education support, liaising with parents and teachers, so that problems that could otherwise “pass unnoticed” are tackled head-on and in good time.
APPDA will run the project, while the Câmara is responsible for providing the space.
APPDA believes that identifying difficulties in children at an early stage is vital to ensure an all-round approach in their education.
APPDA’s ethos is in supporting and promoting quality education and inclusion for children with developmental problems such as autism.
