A new wine club in the eastern Algarve has raised money for ShelterBox Portugal, a disaster relief charity that responds to natural and manmade disasters by delivering boxes of aid to those who are most in need.
The first event of the new afpop Eastern Algarve Wine Club, which was launched on October 8 in association with the Estoi Palace Rotary Club and Claire Larson of Wine Mine, was attended by more than 60 members, who enjoyed wines of Portugal at the Adega Nunes Restaurant in São Brás de Alportel.
Linda Cree from the Eastern Algarve afpop group, said: “The aim of the club is to have fun learning and enjoying the wines of Portugal, while benefitting others.”
This time, all profits went to ShelterBox Portugal, enabling the wine club to purchase a disaster relief box.
The next meeting of the afpop Eastern Algarve Wine Club is scheduled for January 14 when it is hoped more funds will be raised for another box.
afpop is the largest association of foreign residents in Portugal. If you would like to become a member of the new Wine Club, please contact Linda Cree linda.cree@sapo.pt For more information about ShelterBox Portugal, please visit www.shelterbox.org
