A pioneering nautical station, offering all things fun on-the-ocean-wave at Tavira’s Praia do Barril, is the focus of a joint initiative backed by beach resort Pedras d’el Rei and the University of the Algarve.
The ethos behind ‘Projecto Barril’ is to “promote active holidays in the sea”. The team behind it hopes the initiative could start a national trend. It is already supported by the Secretary of State to the Sea and a website is under construction.
“The location is privileged,” say organisers, “as users will be able to take advantage of the Pedras d’el Rei and Pedras da Rainha tourist establishments as well as the surrounding environment which promotes serenity and inner peace.”
Diving, boat trips, birdwatching and windsurfing are just some of the activities that will be available with the added attractions of a choice of accommodation and other leisure activities.
