Loulé will soon become the new home of APPA – the Portuguese Association of Animation Producers – following an agreement signed this Monday between the association and the municipal council.
The move is part of the town’s strategy to “support the audiovisual industry and to position itself as a hub for film and media production,” the council says. “Through the work of the Loulé Film Office, the municipality aims to attract professionals, companies and investors to the region,” it adds.
Alongside its new headquarters, APPA will also launch a major new event: an international animation film festival to be held in Loulé, integrated into the Algarve Film Week. Starting in 2026, the town will host the Ibero-Latin Animation Meeting, an initiative designed to bring investment and talent to Portugal while giving the Algarve greater international visibility.
The presence of APPA in Loulé will also “open doors for students from the University of the Algarve”, with internship opportunities and stronger links between education and the creative industry, the council adds.
