Dear Editor,
I have just been reading your report in the Algarve Resident about Portugal being a cheap place to holiday (‘Portugal is Europe’s bargain hotspot’, July 30).
We have a holiday home there and have found that the last couple of years prices in restaurants and bars have either not altered, or prices reduced.
I wondered, though, if it is putting people out of business. I have noticed a few bars and restaurants have closed down.

Editor’s note: Dear Elaine, I don’t believe a reduction in prices has put people out of business. Unfortunately, times are hard for all, and while some risk and win, others risk and lose.
