Remembrance Day services to be held in Lisbon and Algarve

"Everyone is welcome to join us in this act of remembrance"

Remembrance Day is the day that we remember the fallen in past conflicts. For over 100 years, the Royal British Legion has given support to our veterans, and this is just as important now as it was then. Our current-day service men and women face everyday hardship, being it mental, financial or medical needs.

The annual Poppy Appeal raises the necessary funds to allow us to support our veterans including those here in Portugal. You will find Poppy Boxes at many bars, restaurants and shops throughout the country, as well as at Faro Airport departures and the Madeira Cruise Terminal.

On November 9, the official Royal British Legion Services are held at St George’s Church in Lisbon and St Luke’s Church, in Palhagueira, Algarve.

Everyone is welcome to come and join us in this act of remembrance.

In the Algarve, this is followed by an optional lunch where this year we have the honour of receiving HM Ambassador to Portugal as our honoured guest.

Monthly lunches are held in the Lisbon area, and in the Algarve lunches and other events are held throughout the year.

Lunches and events are open to everyone, but, of course, we would very much like to invite you to become a member of the Royal British Legion. For just €30 a year (less than a cup of coffee per week), you can do your bit to support our brave veterans and future veterans in their hour of need.

For information regarding lunches, events or membership, contact Colin Hearn, Chairman, Royal British Legion, Portugal and Atlantic Islands Branch.
