Summer crackdown brings arrests and the first violations registered under Albufeira’s new Code of Conduct
GNR police continue their crackdown on illegal activity in the Algarve’s tourist hotspot of Albufeira, with a series of weekend patrols ending in 11 arrests and dozens of offenses registered.
The operation, carried out between June 27 and 30, focused on nightlife areas and other popular gathering places in a bid to prevent and stop illicit behaviour.
Among those arrested were ten men and one woman, all aged between 24 and 46. The reasons ranged from resisting police to more serious offenses:
- Four people were arrested for resisting or threatening officers
- One was caught dealing drugs
- One was detained for child neglect
- Another for illegal recordings
- One for drunk driving
- One for ignoring a police order
- One for driving without a license
- And one person was arrested under an existing court warrant
During the operation, police also seized 26 doses of cocaine, and a 58-year-old man was officially named a suspect in a dangerous driving case.
In total, 67 offenses were recorded. Most were traffic-related (55), but others were linked to drug use and the sale of nitrous oxide gas — with 20 canisters confiscated.
Five violations were tied to Albufeira’s new Code of Conduct which came into effect recently and aims to keep public spaces safe and respectful, especially during the busy tourist season.
All those arrested have been formally charged, and the cases are now in the hands of the Albufeira criminal court.
