Police are cracking down on criminal activity in Albufeira as the busy summer season begins
Seventeen people were arrested as part of a major crackdown on criminal activity in and around Albufeira’s main nightlife hotspots between June 19 and 23, GNR police have announced.
The military police force carried out several patrols and inspections, which resulted in the 17 arrests and more than 370 doses of illegal drugs taken off the streets.
According to GNR, the sweep was part of a focused effort to prevent and tackle unlawful behaviour during the busy summer period, with the operation zeroing in on public safety around bars, clubs, and other late-night venues.
Nine people were detained for drug trafficking, four for driving under the influence, two for theft and another two for possession of prohibited weapons.
Those detained include 16 men (aged 21 to 44) and one woman (aged 35). All were formally named as suspects and the cases have now been handed over to the Albufeira Judicial Court.
Police also seized 241 doses of hashish,107 doses of cocaine, 24 doses of MDMA, three doses of cannabis, and €1,945 in cash, as well as two mobile phones, one round of ammunition, a golf club, two pairs of sunglasses, a wallet and a handbag.
In addition, five more men aged 20 to 24 were named as formal suspects in connection with a robbery.
Just days earlier, GNR police had announced the arrest of 16 people between June 13 and 16 for a variety of criminal offences, including attempted homicide, drug trafficking, and home invasion.
The arrests involved 15 men aged between 16 and 47, and a 19-year-old woman, as part of a series of law enforcement operations conducted across the municipality. The actions aimed to prevent and deter illegal activities, particularly during a period of increased public presence in the area.
According to GNR, the busts included one arrest for attempted homicide, nine for drug trafficking, three for home invasion, one for serious disobedience, one for drunk driving and another under a judicial warrant.
Police also seized a stash of drugs, including 157 doses of cocaine and 52 doses of hashish, along with two vehicles and a knife.
Officers issued 19 fines during the operations. Notably, one involved the illegal possession of 18 nitrous oxide canisters (“laughing gas”), and 10 related to ride-share vehicle violations.
