Albufeira surf instructor charged with attempted murder

Lifeguard left bleeding after knife attack near Praia da Falésia, prosecutors say

A 49-year-old surf instructor has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a lifeguard in Albufeira.

According to Portugal’s Public Prosecutor’s Office, the incident took place in October 2025 at Praia da Falésia, close to a beach access path in the Beco da Falésia area.

The victim, a 35-year-old man, was talking to another person when the suspect approached him holding a knife, sparking an argument.

Prosecutors say that “during the confrontation, the victim tried to push the suspect away with a kick, fearing he would be attacked”. Despite this, the suspect allegedly struck twice, hitting the lifeguard in the chest and abdomen.

Despite the “seriousness of the injuries and the fact that the victim was bleeding”, the suspect left the scene “without providing any assistance”, prosecutors add.

The man is now facing charges of attempted murder, possession of a prohibited weapon and failure to provide aid.

The investigation was carried out by PJ criminal police through its southern directorate.
