20-year-old falls “to instant death” from fourth floor balcony of Albufeira hotel

PJ police are today investigating the tragic death of a 20-year-old Brazilian cleaner who fell from the fourth floor balcony of hotel Paraíso, in Albufeira’s Rua do Município.

Death was instantaneous, say reports – suggesting the drop onto concrete below was between 15-18 metres.

But it is in no way clear why it happened.

Tabloid Correio da Manhã suggests this morning that police have interviewed the young woman’s boyfriend who told them that he had been speaking with her moments before her death.

According to the boyfriend, the young woman jumped.

Identified as Rute Vieira, employed as a cleaner in the hotel, it is now a question of the authorities getting to the truth.

CCTV cameras are located at various points in and around the complex, so it will not be too difficult to “determine the circumstances of death”, says CM, adding that three scenarios are “on the table”: the young woman jumped, she fell or she was pushed.

The horror played out yesterday afternoon, purportedly being called in to emergency authorities two minutes after 1pm.

Firefighters and an INEM medical team arrived at the scene, but there was nothing anyone could do.

“The body of the victim had very extensive injuries and polytraumas”, explain reports – suggesting an autopsy due to be undertaken at the office of legal medicine in Portimão may “determine the exact causes of death”.
