A rural Christmas Wonderland in Algarve

"A warm and elegant celebration inspired by the Algarve’s traditions and natural beauty"

With Christmas fast approaching, Ombria Algarve, in Loulé, is promising a variety of festive-themed entertainment to enjoy.

“This festive season, guests can look forward to a warm and elegant celebration inspired by the Algarve’s traditions and natural beauty. Expect memorable gatherings at Viceroy’s restaurants, featuring festive dining moments and seasonal flavours, complemented by exclusive wellness rituals, family activities and vibrant events in the heart of our village, with live music and entertainment that capture the spirit of the region,” Patrick Freeman, CEO at Ombria, told The Resident this week.

“Ombria Algarve becomes a true social hub at this time of year, a place to gather and celebrate meaningful moments with purpose, together with family and friends,” he added.

Viceroy at Ombria Algarve has already announced its full festive program, headlined by the Wonderland Village.

Every Saturday from December 8 to 27, the resort’s central square will host the Wonderland Village, open to the public and featuring a Christmas Market with local crafts, a Santa’s House, outdoor cinema sessions and festive food stalls offering pancakes, hot chocolate and mulled wine. The official opening takes place on December 8, with the lighting of the Christmas tree and central square.

From December 22 to 29, a series of themed workshops at the Wonderland Village will highlight local craftsmanship and seasonal traditions, including ceramics, gingerbread baking, candle-making and Portugal’s beloved Bolo-Rainha – a variation of the better-known Bolo-Rei. Visitors can also take part in wine tastings and cultural activities celebrating Algarve heritage.

There will be other exclusive experiences to enjoy throughout December at the hotel, including wellness and mindfulness sessions such as ‘Sacred Breathwork’, a deep breathing session held every Wednesday of December at 5pm, and Meditation & Tea Ceremony Under the Stars, which will combine meditation and stargazing every Thursday of December at 6pm. Both sessions cost €30.

For those looking to relax at Viceroy Spa, there will be several ‘Festive Wellness Experiences’ to enjoy. The Winter Renewal Ritual (€190 for 90 minutes or €240 for 120 min) promises a “journey of rebirth for body and soul,” starting with a “revitalising body scrub crafted with local Olhão salt, cinnamon and orange”, followed by a “deeply restorative holistic massage.”
