Albufeira Mayor guarantees police reinforcement

José Carlos Rolo appealed to the government amid increasing concerns about safety in the city.

The Mayor of Albufeira, José Carlos Rolo, has announced that the government has responded positively to his appeal for support, amid increasing concerns over safety in the city.

Following the Mayor’s request, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Maria Lúcia Amaral, recognised the need to protect the second-largest national tourist destination at its peak visitor arrival rate, promptly responding by bolstering the GNR force with 40 new officers and various support equipment, including motorcycles and other vehicles, as well as deploying horses for patrols. The new reinforcement, which is already operational, will begin operations this week, significantly increasing security in the area.

José Carlos Rolo took the opportunity to reaffirm that the alarmist crime rate attributed to Albufeira is false and does not reflect the actual number of criminals in the region.

On behalf of Albufeira and its people, the Mayor thanked the government, particularly the Minister of Internal Affairs, “for their sensitivity and quick, decisive response to his request”.
