The vigil in Lagos will be followed by a lecture on the Palestinian question in Silves
The Algarve for Palestine platform is inviting the “public and community to join a peaceful vigil”, taking place tomorrow, Saturday, July 19, at 9pm, in Praça Gil Eanes, Lagos.
Says Algarve for Palestine: “Before the genocide being committed in Gaza – where thousands of lives, mostly children, have been taken – and the helplessness that overtakes us in the face of such barbarity, our civil platform stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people.”
On Sunday, July 20, the public is invited to attend a talk/lecture by historian Márcio Santos on the Palestinian question, will take place on July 20, 2025, at 9.30pm in Templo do Tempo’s space, on Rua da Estação de Silves, in Silves.
“For more than 76 years, the Palestinian people have lived under Israeli occupation, subject to daily human rights violations. In the last 18 months, this oppression has reached unbearable levels of brutality, including ethnic cleansing, torture and extrajudicial executions, the bombing of hospitals and vital infrastructure, and a criminal blockade of humanitarian aid. This reality is not a ‘conflict’ – it is a death machine that has the complicity of European states and that exposes the moral bankruptcy of the international community,” continues Algarve for Palestine.
“Given this scenario, we call on all citizens to participate in this vigil, so that together we can demand:
- an End to the genocide in Gaza;
- an End to the occupation and apartheid;
- an End to the complicity of the European Union;
- an End to the normalisation of relations with Israel;
- an End to the impunity of the Israeli authorities.”
