The new space officially opened on May 13
Monte Gordo is once again home to a fully operational tourist office, right by the beach, providing visitors with a helpful one-stop-shop for information.
The new space officially opened on May 13 as part of the 249th anniversary celebrations of Vila Real de Santo António. Located on Avenida Infante Dom Henrique, the tourist office represents a €124,000 investment, funded by the Vila Real de Santo António municipal council.
“The reopening of the office marks the end of a long-standing gap,” the council says, adding that it has restored a key facility that locals, business owners, and tourists have been asking for over the years. The council also says it boasts a modern and practical design and is tailored to meet the needs of today’s tourists.
At the ribbon-cutting, Mayor Álvaro Araújo spoke of the vital role tourism plays in the local economy:
“We’ve been working to attract other forms of investment, but tourism will always be the backbone of our economy. We must continue improving our offerings and promoting the region,” he said.
The reopening also means the municipality now has three tourist offices: Vila Real de Santo António, Monte Gordo, and Praia da Manta Rota.
Algarve tourism chief André Gomes also attended the event and praised the council for its investment, noting that the municipality surpassed one million overnight stays for the second year in a row.
“These numbers contribute significantly to the Algarve’s notoriety as a tourism destination of excellence,” said Gomes, adding that they “completely justify the opening of more tourist offices in the region”.
The VRSA council added that the tourist office also helps Monte Gordo’s attractiveness as a leading beach destination, helping bolster the local economy and keep it thriving all-year long, while also making employment more stable in the borough.
This new addition brings the total number of tourist offices in the Algarve to 22.
