Carvoeiro Black & White Night draws “historic crowds”

Event hailed as a “triumph” for Carvoeiro and the municipality of Lagoa

The 11th edition of Carvoeiro Black & White Night shattered attendance records and cemented its reputation as “one of Portugal’s most iconic open-air summer festivals,” according to organisers.

On Saturday night (June 21), the popular tourist hotspot of Carvoeiro transformed into a dazzling stage of monochrome magic, welcoming over 30,000 national and international visitors who turned the event into a major celebration of the summer solstice.

The beachfront, “reimagined like never before”, was the backdrop for a wide range of live performances, from musical shows to fire-dance performances inspired by Celtic solstice rituals.

From 8.30pm to 3am, Carvoeiro pulsed with life, with multiple stages and performance areas set up throughout the town.

The event once again saw a strong turnout of foreign visitors – many of whom travel specifically to attend – solidifying its role as a key attraction on the Algarve’s cultural calendar, said the municipal council of Lagoa, which organises the event. This influx had a tangible impact on the local economy, the council added, with restaurants, hotels, and shops all enjoying a significant boost in business.

No incidents were reported during the event thanks to successful planning and coordinated security efforts, the council said.

“It is with great satisfaction that we see Carvoeiro Black & White Night establish itself as a standout national event, drawing thousands from across Portugal and abroad. This edition was truly unforgettable, not just because of the turnout, but for the safe environment, stunning scenery we created at the beach and the economic impact it generated in our municipality,” said Lagoa mayor Luís Encarnação, describing the event as a shared triumph for organisers, partners, business and residents alike.

Supported by dozens of artists, professionals, volunteers, local services, and security teams, the event once again proved Lagoa’s ability to host major events with quality, safety, and lasting impact, the mayor added.

“This festival requires complex logistics and tremendous effort from our teams,” Encarnação said. “Most who participate do not always have a notion of the work behind the scenes, so I want to express deep gratitude to the tireless men and women of the municipality of Lagoa.
