Circus celebrates relationship between humans and animals

A contemporary circus performance entitled ‘Bestias’ that aims to celebrate the ancestral connection between humans and animals will be taking place in the western Algarve town of Odeceixe between April 24 and 29.

The show is described as “unique” in that horses, an African crow and a group of parakeets are the “stars alongside the human cast”.

Training the animals is “hard”, says the team, as they must ensure they are well looked after and, “most importantly, that they feel well in a circus”, adds Camille Decourtye from the Baro d’eve circus company.

The event was brought to the Algarve as part of the ‘Lavrar o Mar’ programme which aims to bring cultural life to “off-the-beaten-track areas” like Monchique and Aljezur.

All shows, taking place at the Malhadais football field, begin at 9pm and last around 100 minutes. Tickets cost €7 and €5 for children up to 12.
