A 50-year-old man has been arrested in Albufeira on suspicion of attempted murder following a violent attack that left another man seriously injured on Tuesday morning (October 7).
According to PJ police, the suspect used a sharp object to stab a 35-year-old man in a public car park near a beach in the parish of Olhos de Água, causing him life-threatening injuries. The situation could have been fatal if not for the quick response of bystanders and emergency teams, the criminal police force said.
Investigators believe the suspect acted without provocation, reportedly attacking the victim over “trivial motives.”
An investigation led by PJ’s Southern Directorate, with the help of GNR police in Albufeira, gathered evidence that led to the man’s identification and arrest under a judicial warrant.
The suspect is expected to appear before a magistrate for questioning and possible pre-trial measures. The case is being handled by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Albufeira.
