The first Beer Run Faro promises to “revolutionise the way we celebrate the heat” – by running and … drinking a refreshing beer (or four) to cool down!
The event, combining fitness with fun, takes place on Friday, August 15 at 9pm, “in a vibrant night-time atmosphere”. The location is the circular track at the Parque Ribeirinho Park, starting and finishing at the Natural Auditorium.
Organisers Free Challenge Associação Desportiva e Sócio-Cultural say Beer Run Faro is inspired by Beer Mile, a 1-mile (1.6 km) drinking race combining running and speed drinking.
The Faro race challenges participants to complete four laps of 402 metres each (total: 1 mile), consuming one 33cl beer before each lap, for a total of four beers during the race.
Participation is open to those over 18 years of age, individually or in relays (teams of four athletes).
There will be options of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beer; however, participation with non-alcoholic beer does not include classification or prizes.
Free Challenge says: “This will be a unique experience combining physical challenge with fun and also an opportunity for evening socialising by the Ria de Formosa, in an event that promotes sports and leisure culture.”
