From Mozart to Chico Buarque

Algarve Classical Music Festival returns to Albufeira with "20 Fingers” concert on October 11.

The Algarve Classic – III Albufeira Classical Music Festival is hosting a concert on October 11, titled “20 Fingers – from Mozart to Chico Buarque”.

Organised by the Albufeira City Council and produced by the Arte do Sul association, the performance will take place at the Kimpton Atlântico Algarve Hotel in São Rafael, starting at 19h00.

The four-handed piano duo “20 Fingers,” formed by pianists João Vasco and Eduardo Jordão, celebrated 17 years of their career in 2020. Created in 2007 as part of the “mEUsic Partnership” festival in Cork, Ireland, the project has been winning over diverse audiences, breaking stylistic boundaries and building bridges between musical genres, in addition to traditional classical piano recitals.

The programme of this concert stands out for its rhythmic variety, dance, and humour, a result of ongoing refinement over the years. It offers a musical journey through time and across continents, beginning with Mozart and ending with Chico Buarque, with stops along the way by Schubert, Erik Satie, Joseph Lamb, Zez Confrey, Piazzolla, Zequinha de Abreu, and Tom Jobim.

Among the recital’s memorable moments, a new arrangement of “Maria Lisboa” by Eduardo Jordão stands out, honouring Fado as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

In the recital “From Mozart to Chico Buarque,” João Vasco and Eduardo Jordão uphold the rigour and depth of their classical training, without losing the lightness and enjoyment of playing together—an attribute that has been part of them since their debut and has won over audiences and critics on dozens of stages across four continents.

“From Mozart to Chico Buarque” was released on record (AVA Musical Editions) at the Algarve International Piano Festival.

Alongside the original works, this recital includes previously unreleased arrangements for piano four-hands by pianists Eduardo Jordão and Inês Mesquita.

Tickets cost €10 and can be purchased here.
