Lagoa health centre set for major makeover

€732,087 investment is funded entirely by Portugal's Recovery and Resilience Plan

Lagoa is moving forward with a major makeover at its local health centre, which is set to receive renovations worth €732,087 aimed at boosting patient care.

Funded entirely by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), this facelift promises a modern, energy-efficient, and more accessible healthcare hub for the community.

The ambitious project, which is set to take 210 days to complete, will see a massive transformation of the building.

Patients can expect brand-new accessibility lifts to make the centre fully compliant with mobility standards, while the old roof will be replaced with high-tech sandwich panels. The centre’s electrical systems, fire safety measures, ventilation, and telecommunications will all be upgraded.

Inside, offices and patient areas will be reimagined with fresh paint, new flooring, and modernised spaces, while doors and windows will be replaced to improve thermal efficiency. Solar panels are also set to be installed, reducing energy consumption and promoting sustainability.

The project also includes a new metal structure which will expand the covered areas of the centre, making circulation smoother and more comfortable for everyone who visits.

Mayor Luís Encarnação has hailed the project as a “vital investment to improve care, safety, and comfort for both patients and healthcare professionals”.  He added that the municipality remains committed to enhancing public facilities and meeting the needs of the community.

The council says that this transformation is just the beginning. The municipality is also working on upgrading other health centres across Lagoa, aiming to create a “modern, accessible, and equitable network of primary healthcare”.

“With this intervention, Lagoa is strengthening its strategy to invest in the modernisation of public health infrastructures, contributing to a more dignified, functional and sustainable service,” the council adds.
