Lagoa kicks off €135,000 revamp of Mexilhoeira da Carregação sports ground

New synthetic turf, better lighting, and modern equipment set to transform sports ground within 120 days

The municipal council of Lagoa is revamping the Quinta de S. Pedro sports ground in Mexilhoeira da Carregação.

The works, which began last week and will cost around €135,000, include replacing the worn pavement with synthetic turf, installing new basketball hoops, goalposts and nets, upgrading the pitch’s rainwater drainage system, refurbishing perimeter walls, and improving the lighting. The construction is expected to take 120 days.

Once completed, the upgraded venue will be freely available for informal use by the public, with no bookings required.

This is the fifth multi-sports facility in the municipality to undergo improvements, following interventions in Carvoeiro, Bela Vista, Lagoa, and Porches. All these projects fall under Lagoa’s Municipal Sports Development Strategy, particularly its “Sport for All” axis, which “promotes active lifestyles and combats sedentary habits across the community,” the municipal council says.
