Leap of faith for charity

Daniel Warwick, a PGA golf professional at the Sheraton Pine Cliffs, will be swapping his putter for a parachute in October to raise money for the National Autistic Society, a charity which is very close to his heart and that of his family.

When not on the greens, Daniel spends time with his family who own and run Oscars Pub at Vila Sol shopping. The pub is named after Daniel’s six-year old nephew, who was diagnosed with autism two years ago.

“It has been very difficult for Oscar and now he and his mum Jessica have moved back to Essex in the UK so that he can receive specialist help, but everyone here knows of Oscar and he comes back as often as possible and for all the school holidays,” said Daniel Warwick.

“Oscar is a great boy and all of my friends have grown very close to him, which is why we all want to raise money for the UK-based National Autistic Society by doing a joint tandem parachute jump,” he added.

On October 1, Daniel and his friends Guy Barton, Alex Cleaton and Mario Sardo, will be taking their own leap of faith when they complete a parachute jump in Alvor.

Daniel said: “Each person is paying for their own jump so that every Euro we make can be donated to the charity. The jumps are being arranged for us by Portugal Sport and Adventure and if anyone else would like to take part and also do a jump for the charity then they would be more than welcome.”

This is the first time that any of the group have completed a skydive. Daniel said: “I have always wanted to do a jump before and I thought it was a great idea to combine the jump with raising money for this very important charity – I just hope it won’t be my last!”

He added: “Already we have had lots of support, especially from people who go to Oscars Pub who have already made donations behind the bar. I hope that with having the summer to raise funds, we will be able to reach our target of £2,500.”
