Moonlight walks return to Lagoa

Lace up your sneakers – Lagoa’s beloved moonlight walks are back

The municipal council of Lagoa has announced the return of the popular ‘Caminhadas ao Luar’ (Moonlight Walks), a series of six free evening walks or runs in some of the municipality’s most stunning settings, all under the glow of the moon.

Held every Wednesday at 8.30pm through July and August, these non-competitive events are open to everyone, regardless of age of fitness level. The goal is to get promote the physical and mental health benefits of staying active. “Walks and runs are activities that can be done by people of all ages and lifestyles,” the local council points out.

From the streets of the picturesque village of Ferragudo to the stunning shores and cliffs of Carvoeiro, each walk will explore a different part of the municipality.

Participating is free and signing up is simple, either through the council’s website, in person at parish council offices, or even on the spot before the walk begins.

Organisers recommend wearing comfortable clothes and shoes and bringing a flashlight or headlamp and a bottle of water.

Here is the full schedule along with the locations and meeting points of each event:

  • July 9 – Lagoa (Largo do Auditório Carlos do Carmo)
  • July 16 – Praia do Carvoeiro (Largo da Praia)
  • July 23 – Ferragudo (Largo Rainha D. Leonor)
  • July 30 – Porches (Largo da Igreja da N. Sra. da Rocha)
  • August 6 – Parchal (Estádio Municipal da Bela Vista)
  • August 13 – Estômbar (Parque de Feiras e Exposições)
