New Year’s Eve events in Algarve cater for all budgets

New Year’s Eve hotel bookings are between 1-2% higher than last year

The Algarve will welcome 2026 with a mix of free public celebrations organised by local councils and New Year’s Eve events in luxury hotels, offering options for every budget on Wednesday, December 31.

The region’s end-of-year programme combines large-scale street parties with concerts and fireworks, alongside more exclusive galas hosted by upscale hotels.

“New Year’s Eve in the Algarve caters for all budgets,” Hélder Martins, president of the Algarve Hotels and Tourist Resorts Association (AHETA), told Lusa news agency.

Many of the largest events are organised by municipalities and are free to attend. Martins said this allows residents and visitors to enjoy “a fantastic night” without spending money.

One of the largest celebrations takes place in Albufeira, where hundreds of thousands of people are expected to gather for the Carpe Nox festivities. The programme includes concerts on Pescadores Beach, drone shows, fireworks and street entertainment. The Portuguese band Silence 4 returns to the stage, while Os Quatro e Meia perform on January 1. Festivities continue with the Paderne Medieval event, featuring shows and street food.

According to Albufeira City Council, more than 230,000 people attended the Carpe Nox celebrations last year.

In Faro, celebrations will be held in Jardim Manuel Bívar, with performances by Manga Limão and Sara Correia, followed by a pyromusical fireworks display at midnight.

Lagos will bid farewell to 2025 in Praça do Infante with a concert by Pedro Abrunhosa, followed by what the council says will be one of the longest fireworks displays in the Algarve. The party continues through the night with music from DJ TobyONE.

In Loulé municipality, New Year’s Eve celebrations take place at Passeio das Dunas in Quarteira. The four-day programme includes performances by Xutos & Pontapés and Richie Campbell on December 31.

Other public celebrations include Portimão’s riverside area with the “Revenge of the 2000s” party, Praia do Carvoeiro in Lagoa with Maninho, Deejay Cabrita and Zinco, Jardim Pescador Olhanense in Olhão with Diogo Piçarra and DJ Deelight, Praça da República in Tavira with Queen tribute band One Vision, Praia de Monte Gordo in Vila Real de Santo António with Fernando Daniel, and the Alcoutim pier with DJ Fábio Sousa.

Although many hotels close during the winter months, AHETA estimates that New Year’s Eve bookings were between 1-2% higher in mid-December than at the same time last year, with prices broadly unchanged.

“Most hotels offer packages that include New Year’s Eve entertainment,” Martins said, noting that visitors attending street celebrations tend to book accommodation at the last minute.

Alongside the free events, casinos and hotels across the region are offering ticketed celebrations. At Vilamoura Casino, for example, the New Year’s Eve package includes dinner, selected drinks, supper and entertainment, priced at €220 per person.

Online searches show buffet dinners starting at €99 per person, while gala dinners in luxury venues can exceed €420. For those opting for a five-star hotel stay with dinner included, prices can rise to €700 or more per person, depending on room type and length of stay.

According to AHETA, luxury resorts in the Algarve had already reached around 92% occupancy by mid-December for the Christmas and New Year period.
