More on the collateral effects of the ongoing pandemic: Portuguese people spent €73.6 million on medication to help calm them down and sleep last year. That’s a 14% increase on the already vast quantities of money spent by such a relatively small population (just 10.2 million people) on sleeping pills and tranquilizers in 2019.
